Q330 : Using TRALIN to Compute Symmetric Components

Question
Is it possible to use the CDEGS software to compute the symmetrical components of cables and overhead lines?

Answer

While this is not its primary purpose, the TRALIN program of the CDEGS suite can compute the sequence components of cables and overhead lines. To do this:

  1. Open the Input Toolbox for TRALIN.
  2. Click on the System button to go to the System screen.
  3. Make sure that "Sequence Components" is selected.

From that point on, you can define your cable and circuit data as you normally would in TRALIN (Section 5.2 of the "suburban.pdf" manual that can be found on the CD-ROM in the folder "pdf\howto" shows how to do this). The only special thing to do is to remember to set the phase number of all neutral conductors to 0, while the phase number of the phase conductors should follow their normal numerical sequence.

The results are written in text form in the program's output file (TR_JobID.F09).
