Q328 : Reducing the number of recommended frequencies in FFTSES

Question
How can I reduce the number of computation frequencies recommended by FFTSES in a transient study?

Answer
FFTSES often recommends a large number of frequencies when it is asked to compute several segments or observation points simultaneously. What happens is that the program uses all the frequencies recommended for each of the individual points or segments and eliminates duplicated ones. This is not very efficient since we often end up with frequencies that are so close together that they are effectively redundant.

To keep the number of recommended frequencies low, the recommended approach is to try and do the initial FFTSES runs using only one or two representative segments or points, until the analysis is complete. Then, you can increase the number of segments or points.
